Not far from the hauntingly beautiful buddhist caves of Yungang, the industrial landscape around Datong is also very noticeable.

I went to the Coal Mine Park but the place where you are allowed to go down into the mine was closed for renovation so I decided to walk around the area. After going through an active mine, I found quite interesting ruins of an abandoned mine with an almost abandoned village of mine workers.

I am not sure but this mine could have been a part of the working one I saw just before. According to a villager, the mine here has been abandoned for more than four years. I have not found more information on this site yet, but maybe in the summer more people will walk around and answer my questions…
